Zverev's Legal Troubles Addressed in Open Court
Woman Accuses Zverev of Strangulation
Former World No. 2 Denies Allegations
Alexander Zverev, the former world number two, has found himself embroiled in a controversial legal battle. In November 2023, he was issued a penalty order and fined by a German court after being accused of strangling his former girlfriend, Brenda Patea. Zverev vehemently denies the allegations, which were first made public by the German newspaper RTL.
In a statement, Zverev's lawyers identified the alleged victim as Patea, who gave birth to their daughter in 2023. Patea claims that Zverev strangled her during an argument at a hotel in Monte Carlo in February 2021.
On Friday, May 31, Zverev's lawyer, Dr. Alfred Dierlamm, requested that the Berlin court not name the woman. The court granted the request on privacy grounds and the hearing was closed to the public.
This case has raised concerns about the potential damage to Zverev's reputation and career. The tennis star has been a dominant force on the ATP Tour, winning multiple Grand Slam titles and reaching the world number one ranking. However, these allegations could tarnish his image and affect his ability to compete at the highest level.
